Bunge’s proprietary Bunge Certification Program for Sustainable Agricultural Sourcing (PRO-S) has received official approval from the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), This recognition is key for our customers and partners in the aquaculture feed industry. The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) acts as an independent “referee” for responsible fish farming, setting recognized global standards for environmental and social responsibility. Its Feed Standard helps certify that ingredients come from verified sustainable sources.
For Bunge, PRO-S is our proprietary certification standard, exclusively sold and applicable to all commodities we source. Through independent auditing, PRO-S aims to ensure our plant-based ingredients are sustainably sourced—legally compliant, addressing key environmental impacts, including preventing deforestation, and adhering to social responsibility principles. This ASC approval validates PRO-S’ specified standards, and is expected to boost our feed ingredient sales, mainly soymeal, even further in the fish feed market.
This ASC recognition gives Bunge a market differentiator, according to Michel Santos, Sr. Director, Sustainability Grains & Oils Global Platforms. PRO-S, created in 2012 and continuously enhanced, gained early endorsement from the European Feed Manufacturer’s Association (FEFAC), leading to increased sales since 2017 across major European markets.
