Bunge in Morristown, Indiana, Donates $50,000 USD to Local School District to Support an Ag Lab Expansion Project

Bunge recently donated $50,000 USD to the Shelby Eastern School District to support the future of farming and the construction of two new agriculture labs.

The Shelby Eastern School district in Morristown and Waldron, Indiana, launched the Ag Lab Extension Project in 2025 to address the exponential growth of Agricultural Education programs at Morristown High School and Waldron High School. The Ag Lab Expansion Project transformed designated areas of the high schools into ideal spaces for students to expand their skills and abilities to prepare them to address agricultural challenges facing the world today.

“We are ecstatic that we could assist in a small way with the Ag Lab Extension Project,” said Matt Lane, Assistant Plant Manager at Bunge’s soy processing facility in Morristown. “The partnership between Bunge and the local school districts has been in place for decades, and we are glad we can continue to grow agriculture resources at the local level.”

On Aug. 12 and Aug. 13, 2025, the Shelby Eastern School District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Ag Labs grand opening. Bunge representatives attended the events, which included students and advisors who shared appreciation for Bunge’s investment and the work Bunge is doing to support their Future Farmers of America chapters.

“The future of agriculture is right here in Indiana, and students at Morristown High School and Waldron High School are an important part of that future. We are excited to see how the students learn and grow through their experience in the new labs”, added Britt Kagay, Bunge’s Manager, Merchandising in Morristown.

The new structures include both traditional classroom spaces as well as a separate lab space, such as a kitchenette, for additional food-based lessons plans, and a greenhouse that will replace some current plant-growing facilities.

“At Bunge we are advancing sustainable agricultural practices throughout our supply chains by supporting projects that safeguard the environment, respect human rights and improve the economic well-being of farmers, employees and local communities,” said Gabriella Herzog, Director Social Impact. “We are very proud of this donation* and what it represents.”
